Join us at Las Margaritas Mexican & Italian Restaurant at 541 W Dimond Blvd (on the north side of Dimond between Arctic and C Streets). When you walk in, turn left into the front room that is separated from the main dining area and we'll be on the right. Chapter Officer and Director Elections
To: All EAA Chapter 42 Members
From: Rick Henry
Re: Chapter Officer and Director Elections
Hello EAA Chapter 42 Members:
At our May 26, 2020 Chapter Membership meeting we will have elections for all Officer and Director positions in our Chapter. I have been asked to canvas the membership to seek those who may be interested in an elected position. These include all of the following:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Directors at Large
The current Officers are listed on this page: Eaa 42 Officers
More information about the process and the duties of each position can be found on our website here: Eaa 42 Bylaws
Our current Officers and Directors have served in their positions for several years now and it’s time to offer other Chapter members the opportunity to serve in a position. Some current Officers and / or Directors may wish to continue to serve in their present or other capacities, but they will be part of the election process with other nominees.
I’m sure you would agree that our current Officers have done an exemplary job and we owe them a hearty “Thank You!” for their tremendous efforts and dedication to our Chapter.
I encourage you to consider helping keep our Chapter active and vibrant by ‘stepping up’ to be considered as a nominee for the position(s) of your choice. Please contact me directly if you have any questions or would like me to add you to the list of nominees.
Sincerely,
Rick Henry

Chapter Meeting - Canceled
Where: Canceled
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our Chapter Meeting this month.
The Air Museum is closed along with just about everything else in the state. Although we could probably find another place we decided to cancel the March meeting to go along with the advice from the medical pros. Bernie was going to entertain us with a presentation on his flight into the Canadian Arctic in his Bonanza. He has prepared a video of the presentation he was going to give and has loaded it on You Tube - it is titled "Canadian Arctic Adventure"
Canadian Arctic Adventure
It will be available at meeting time Tue. at 7 PM.

Bernie’s Canadian Arctic Adventure
Bernie created an excellent four-part video of his flight across the Canadian Arctic. He posted this for us to see online in lieu of our regular monthly meeting yesterday. Enjoy!

Chapter Meeting
Where: Tom Lawhorn's Video Feed
Chapter Meeting - Tom Lawhorn will have two presentations for us:
Tom will discuss TIG welding and show us some repairs that he's doing on a set of Aerocet floats.
The plan is for Tom to initiate a Live Video from the EAA 42 Facebook page.
So, to view this you will need to log into Facebook and look for a notification that "Tom Lawhorn is Live on EAA 42" or something similar. We will be able to text questions or comments to him, which watchers can all see and to which Tom can reply, but there won't be any audio or video from other members, only text.
If you are not yet a member of the EAA 42 Facebook page, be sure to click on "Join" and we will add you to our Facebook Members.

Tom Lawhorn's Glastar update
Working on Glastar cargo door. Since I am building mine as a tail wheel, as soon as you open the door it will want to close, so I wanted something that was automatic. So I made a simple over center latch. It attaches to the fuselage with an adel clamp and is attached to the door with a couple of machine screws into “tee” nuts bedded in the fiberglass. Here is a video link: Tom's video
The Glastar was originally built with the side windows glued to the doors. I wanted the option of being able to open them. It required me to make a mold of the door to fit the compound curves of the door. Then I needed to make a deeper jam. The hinges are attached, and ready to bond in the plexiglass. There are 15 photos so they are in a drop box: Tom's dropbox - 15 photos

Here is a photo of my RV8 during Condition Inspection this fall. Note my use of water bottle to catch any fuel spill during fuel system checks. Did discover Magneto in need of overhaul during this inspection. OH of Mag greatly improved the starting on the engine under all conditions including hot start.

Nick Cassara - Kolb Kolbra update
Here are a couple pictures of my Kolb Kolbra, experimental light sport project. Unlike Lars, I like Oratex covered aircraft…:) I hope to have this ten year project done in the spring. A Conex shipping container is a safe place to store a small folding plane away from the Palmer winds, but it is also like a walk in freezer in the winter...

Rick Henry - update
I've moved the experimental Mustang II into a shared hangar with what I think is a pretty cool-looking airplane: a Yak 52 (owned by another guy). My 'winter project' is to put a Garmin GMA-345 audio panel in the Mustang II which will have Bluetooth Music input. A month ago, we added a 1972 Cardinal - primarily for my sons to fly and build time. I feel fortunate enough to have found one that was very well taken care of by a Boeing engineer in Everett, WA for the last 35 years. My Student pilot son Matt got a 'super-duper' dual cross-country flying it from WA to TN.

Well I don’t keep it in Anchorage, but do I owe an update on my other experimental. Last night I finished ferrying my Cassutt IIIM from Rapid City to San Diego. Planning to race it at Reno in Formula One as long as it isn’t canceled again this year 🤞Here’s a picture from the big cross country where the tailwheel broke just before the final leg of the trip. Fortunately, my friend with the twin airplane to my Quickie lives just an hour flight away and was able to shuttle me around for parts!

Wright Brothers Memorial Banquet – Virtual Event
Where: Online
The national EAA Wright Brothers Memorial Banquet is a virtual event this year.
We’re honored to host Capt. Jim Lovell as we look back on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission, and the heroic efforts by all involved that brought him and his crewmates safely home. Join on December 10, 2020, to hear his firsthand account of that harrowing mission.
Because of the limitations on large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be a virtual one, open to all EAA members at no charge. EAA members must log in to their EAA.org web account and visit https://eaa.org/eaa-museum/eaa-museum-events/wright-brothers-banquet to access the event.
The live stream will begin at 7 p.m. CST. A recording of the event will also be available on demand for members to view at their convenience.
